Limitless Guild Bets Big on Axie Infinity V3, Aims 10K Scholars

Limitless Guild’s Hermie Cornejo Jr. thinks Axie Infinity’s long-term vision is the reason why the game continues to thrive today.

“If we ask the question: Which game in the industry is able to expand and continue to build for the next 5 to 10 years, with a long-term vision? I think the answer that we can have would be Axie Infinity.”

This is what Hermie Cornejo Jr., the General Manager of Limitless Guild (LLG), said during the “Meet the Guild” meetup organized by BlockchainSpace at Draper Startup House Manila last June 15, 2022.

According to Cornejo, decentralized finance (DeFi) games today only last for a short time because ecosystems cannot sustain their games when bad things happen, but Sky Mavis’ Axie Infinity, which was launched last 2018, is still standing because of its long-term vision.

“If we talk about DeFi games, the main issue is not all games are able to support their ecosystem if something goes wrong. We see a lot of games that are being deployed now that only last around three to four weeks. Like probably, if you are lucky, you’ve been there for two months and you can get your ROI.”

ROI, or Return on Investment, is a tool to evaluate the return of an investment in relation to its purchasing cost. High ROI means the investment done was profitable, while negative to low ROI simply means that the return was lower than its purchasing costs.

However, the guild manager expressed his disappointments over the Axie Infinity Battles V2: “Sad to say, V2 has been disappointing for most because that was the big star for Sky Mavis. Because in V2, we cannot introduce newer systems.”

But despite this disappointment, Cornejo emphasized that Axie Infinity: Origin (Battles V3) is a good move for Sky Mavis to enjoy multiple avenues for them to expand.

“So, because of V3, it is more challenging now with 6 parts from 4 parts, with the addition of runes and charms, with new mechanics as well – that many people called very basic,” he stressed.

Cornejo is talking about the body parts of an Axie that can be used during battles. Where in V2, Horns, Mouth, Back, and Tail, can be used for an Axie’s offense and defense, while in V3, aside from Mouth, Back, Tail, and Horn, Ears and Eyes can now be used.

Further, Charms and Runes can be used in V3 to add damage points, health points (HPs), and armor to the Axies. While there are cards that can be used to choose which enemy Axie will attack or can be used to attack multiple enemies randomly. There are also cards that can buff or debuff an Axie.

The general manager of Limitless Guild highlighted that these additional features, though some may call them “very basic,” can attract more competitive players.

“It was simple, and it has competitive value as well. And that could mean more competitive players as well,” Cornejo concluded.

Just before May ended, Limitless Guild spent about 30 ETH to buy V3 Axies.

According to their Facebook post, they bought these Axies “with a high potential to become meta.”

Their post also added that they have acquired 196,590,297 SLP (Smooth Love Potion), 3,220 AXS (Axie Infinity Shards), 70,000 floor Axies, 16 Land plots, and more.

Their April 2022 Facebook post also revealed that they are aiming to have 10,000 scholars.
