In a notable achievement, the Pinoy-led web3 startup DAOCre-8 secured the 4th position at the recently concluded Solana Hyperdrive Hackathon, under the DAOS & NETWORK STATES category, bagging $10,000 in prizes.

In a statement shared with BitPinas, The BLOCK, a Philippine blockchain education provider that supported DAOCre-8, clarified that the prize money awarded is in the form of $10,000 USDC, not credits or grants. The BLOCK also highlighted that the hackathon significantly elevated DAOCre-8’s visibility, potentially opening doors for future grants and investment opportunities stemming from this exposure.

DAOCre-8, co-founded by El Bonuan, Jaime Zulueta, and Theo Roque, is envisioned as a platform that melds traditional crowdfunding with decentralized governance. By doing so, it aims to foster a space where both creators and backers can significantly impact project decisions via unique DAOs, Milestone-based funding, and AI-powered analytics.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Bonuan exclaimed:

“I thought up DAOCre-8 back in 2021 when the market started to decline, I put it in my idea bank and pursued other things. Come 2022, I revisited the idea of DAOs and tried to launch some things, but failed.”

Bonuan then got invited by Eli Becislao, co-founder of The BLOKC to a group chat of Filipino builders discussing the Solana Hyperdrive hackathon. This is where he connected with his co-founders Roque and Zulueta, both of whom Bonuan only met in passing in previous web3 events.

“Never did we expect to place in the top projects in the first place, but we did our best still for this spontaneous team up.”

When asked about why DAOCre-8 made it to the finals and eventually won, Becislao noted that the team has been very consistent all throughout the learning sessions provided by education and ecosystem builder The BLOKC.

“DAOCre-8 is consistent. They really attended all the learning sessions and didn’t let anything pass, they accepted all criticisms and used those feedbacks to better and improve their project, narratives, and pitch since we had several mockup pitching sessions.”

Solana Foundation heralded the Hyperdrive Hackathon as an avenue for gathering global founders and developers to propel high-impact projects into the Solana ecosystem.

This edition saw over 7,000 participants with 907 final projects submitted. The Grand Champion title went to Fluxbot, an AI-powered chatbot facilitating seamless interactions with the Solana blockchain, winning $50,000 USDC and passes to the BreakPoint event in Singapore next year. BreakPoint is Solana’s flagship developer and ecosystem conference.

In a broader perspective, the Philippines made a strong statement in the Solana Hyperdrive with a total of 10 qualified project submissions out of the 907 entries from over 40 countries worldwide.

Among these submissions, four projects – DAOCre-8, ButterSol, TIQET, and Sayver – made it to the finals, propelling the Philippines to the #6 spot globally in terms of project quality. This achievement surpassed notable contenders such as India (rank#11) and Vietnam (#21), showcasing the burgeoning innovation and excellence in the local Web3 domain, The BLOKC told BitPinas in a statement.

“The program of The BLOKC is more of incubation and we helped the participants to come up with their Solana Hyperdrive project — from the ideation stage, prototyping to crafting their pitch and narratives. We had several learning sessions over the period of 45 days both in-person and virtual.”
