BlockchainSpace and The Sandbox collaborate once again to launch PINASining II. This is the second voxel contest for creators to build Philippines-themed voxel assets for the Metaverse. Submissions are open from May 24 to June 18, 2021. Voting takes place from June 19 to 25, 2021 with a grand prize pool of $1,000 worth of $SAND cryptocurrency.
Think of voxels as the 3D equivalent of a pixel, a value on a regular grid in a 3D space. In The Sandbox, players can build structures and experiences similar to what creators build using voxels from games like Minecraft and Roblox. What’s new is the addition of minting and storing of in-game assets on the Ethereum blockchain, which effectively allows creators to monetize what they build and create inside The Sandbox. This is a new type of gameplay called “Play-to-earn,” where players are rewarded from the time and effort they invested in these gaming worlds.
The Sandbox and BlockchainSpace previously collaborated in the first PINASining contest held last month which attracted submissions from the Philippines. Filipino creators showcased their voxel creations such as “Manny Pacquiao” by MardanGameDev, “Mystic Duwende” by focc_x, and “Sorbetes Ice Cream Cart” by iLaSining.
In a statement, Sebastian Borget, COO of The Sandbox said they are thrilled to conduct the PINASining contest to reach out to local talents through engaging activities like voxel art contests and game jams. “We feel our community is truly global and talent has no frontier — and sharing the stories of success from members of our community who’s already been rewarded for their contribution to our virtual world is the best way to give back and make an impact through the use of NFTs and our $SAND tokens.”
Peter Ing, Philippines Ambassador for The Sandbox said many Filipinos already familiar with Voxel artwork through Minecraft, Roblox, and MagicaVoxel will have an easy transition when they begin building on The Sandbox. “The narrative for Filipino artists and creators is extremely compelling, those who previously invested hours building assets in voxel based games can now monetize their efforts by selling the artwork and game assets that they create. Not only this, The Sandbox is changing the rules of ownership for artists and creators, who now truly own their work and its intellectual property,“ Peter added.
PINASining is co-hosted by The Sandbox and BlockchainSpace. BitPinas, together with WhenInManila.com are media partners while, Emfarsis, and Kumu are sponsors.
