Globe Unveils Web3 Innovations at AsiaTech Singapore 2023

Following its recent efforts to adopt and integrate web3 and metaverse, telecommunications giant Globe highlighted its leadership in web3 and metaverse innovations at the AsiaTech x Singapore (ATxSG) event held last June 6-9, 2023 at Capella Singapore.

During the event, Ralph Aligada, Head of Globe Games, Esports, Innovations and Metaverse partnerships, was part of the panel discussion, “Transforming Content Experiences in Web3.0, Metaverse and AR/VR”, where he highlighted Globe’s applications of these technologies. The panel was also composed of Aneirin Flynn of Singapore-based Eleos Labs and Virat Patel of Pioneer Consulting Asia-Pacific.

“In a world that’s rapidly transforming through digital innovation, we at Globe understand that the future is no longer about simply providing traditional telecom services. We are no longer just a ‘telco’. We are at the forefront of a technological revolution, transitioning into a fully-fledged technology company – a ‘techco’,” he stated.

Aligada further stated that Globe is leveraging its technological expertise to drive innovation in “web3, the metaverse, and beyond”, as the firm embraces its new identity through the adoption of these technologies.

“This is just the beginning. We are committed to continuous innovation and exploration of what these new technologies can offer. We are pioneering, learning, experimenting, and iterating to ensure that we’re not just talking about the future, but actively participating in its creation,” Aligada added.

In a statement, the company noted that through its strategic partnerships with pioneering companies such as MetaverseGo, BUD, Coins.ph, and MetaCare, Globe is “actively shaping the nation’s digital frontier.”

“These alliances have enabled Globe to generate tangible, impactful use cases, pushing the boundaries in a variety of exciting ways,” the firm highlighted.

AsiaTech x Singapore

Asia Tech x Singapore (ATxSG) is Asia’s premier tech event where technology intersects with society and the digital economy. It was organized by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) and Informa Tech, and supported by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB). 

ATxSG facilitated discussions that covered a wide range of topics, including business, technology, and government.

Globe in Web3 and Metaverse

Globe ventured into the metaverse in November last year by launching Virtual Hangouts and partnering with Superordinary Friends to launch non-fungible tokens (NFT).

In June 2022, Globe announced its plans to partner with play-to-earn (P2E) publishers, such as Sky Mavis, the developer of the P2E game Axie Infinity.

Since November 2022, the firm and asset discovery platform MetaverseGo have been actively collaborating to advance web3 and innovation education in the Philippines. Their recent team up was at the Mobile World Congress 2023. Prior to this, they also partnered during the 917 #ExtraGDay event, creating Gudi NFTs for access to G Music Fest and special prizes.

Moreover, Globe’s fintech arm, Gcash, introduced GCrypto, an in-app crypto-trading platform, along with NFT collections like House of Ohlala and a Filipino NFT platform named GCrypto NFT Hub. Globe and GCrypto are the Official Connectivity and Official Crypto Offramp Partner at the Web3 Community Summit.
