Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) customers have reported on social media multiple unauthorized transactions on their account today January 04, 2023.

In a statement, BPI said:

“Some ATM, CAM deposits, POS and e-commerce debit transactions from December 30 to 31, 2022 were posted twice. We are already working to reverse the duplicate transactions. Rest assured that your account is safe and secure.”

However, customers report that they were still unable to access their mobile accounts today.

According to several publications, they are currently waiting for a statement from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).

A glitch from BPI systems also happened between June 6 to 8, 2017 after users report of money missing from their accounts. While there was speculation that a hack occured, the universal bank denied this, stating that the cause of the glitch was data processing error.

Central Bank Issues a Statement

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has already issued a statement regarding the universal bank’s double debit transaction report. As per the Central Bank, it appears BPI has already found out the root cause of the operational error.
