“A lot of us are a bit shaken; we were unprepared, I guess. So, I guess we have to quickly find where we should all evolve in this environment. And for my company, of course, obviously, we were trying to do this faster than the tech. Otherwise, we would be irrelevant.”
This was the statement of Vanessa Barrameda, the general manager of end-to-end web3 solutions X3, on how developers became unprepared for the rapid emergence of artificial intelligence (AI). She mentioned this during the March edition of the Bitcoin, Beer, and Bitstories (BBB) meetup, “Women of Web3,” held at Draper Startup House Manila on March 30, 2023.
“I mean, the bear market is a cycle; everything happens in a cycle, so it’s something you’d expect. But as a dev (developer), a dev shop like X3, what we didn’t expect was how fast AI was going to affect our lives,” she explained, adding that the occurrence of AI is not something she did not expect to happen, at least in the next decade
Barrameda also shared that developers were taken aback when AI chatbot ChatGPT was released, adding that the new iteration that is next to the already impressive ChatGPT 4 will be “exponentially more intelligent than what we are experiencing now.”

Barrameda: Devs Should Continue Upskilling to Avoid Being Replaced by AI
However, the X3 executive admitted AIs are making it more difficult for humans to distinguish real from manipulated content.
“Only subscribe to legitimate courses, and don’t just believe everything you hear. Especially now, so many fake photos and (also) fake videos, you’d think it’s the real thing since it’s a video, but it’s not. Again, AI is making it so difficult for us to decipher which is real and which is not,” she added.
This is where Barrameda emphasized the importance of continuous learning and upskilling for developers in the face of the rise of AI. Warning against complacency, she encouraged individuals to stay current and relevant in their skills to avoid being replaced by AI.
AI in Crypto Industry
This is not the first time that the power of AI has been discussed at a BBB event. During the February meetup, the panel, which includes AI and Blockchain enthusiasts Paul Soliman, the CEO of BayaniChain; Michael Calma, the country manager of Advance AI; and Leon Gaban, the founder of Moonholdings, collectively that the capabilities of AI in today’s era are not yet fully maximized and that our knowledge regarding the technology is still too narrow.
However, to be able to maximize its benefits, Calma suggested that NFT artists should maximize the help of AI in producing better artwork and treat it more as a tool than competition.
In the crypto industry, since the surge in popularity of AI and the occurrence of AI tokens in late 2022, scammers have also seized the opportunity by issuing pump-and-dump tokens pretending to be related to ChatGPT.
Currently, ChatGPT does not have its own cryptocurrency coin, but its popularity has given several other AI tokens the chance to flourish in the space.
