summit day 1

The two-day Yield Guild Games (YGG) Web3 Games Summit conference began with an opening address by Mench Dizon, Country Lead of YGG Pilipinas.

“Our team has been working steadfastly for several months to make sure that we bring forth an event that will be at par with the best of the world. But the decision to even get started on this path is a leap of faith. There were a lot of risks,” she stated, noting that the event is happening in the middle of a crypto winter.

Dizon also noted that focusing on web3 games is a challenge, as it is a very specific niche. YGG aims to make the event like “the game developers conference but for web3 games.”

“Despite all odds, we are here today. You also took a leap of faith by being here. We have founders from all over the world who will talk to us about their journey carrying on throughout the uncertainty. Over the next few days, you will hear about the future of games directly from the developers and builders as they share the challenges as well as the opportunities of being pioneers in the space.”

The Commissioner confirmed that in the context of the Philippine regulators, it is possible to regulate technology while creating safer spaces to innovate.

“The capacity (to regulate and create safe spaces), yes definitely. This is something that is very important to the SEC. It’s very important for regulators that (we) regulate and create space for the Filipino investors here. So it’s precisely why we have been working hard at this,” he answered.

Commissioner Lee added that they are currently working to create safer spaces as there are already multiple regulations in place for this path.

“At the end of the day, I think we all want the same thing; we want a thriving Philippines, a thriving economy, and our position is that we can only get a space like that if we make it safe for the investors to be able to safely and easily invest. And that’s the end goal I think for all of us,” he added.
