As the new year dawns, BitPinas has compiled a list of promising web3 games–both existing and emerging– that players and investors should keep an eye on in 2024.

Anito Legends

Anito Legends is a free-to-play multi-platform strategic auto-battler game that incorporates some play-and-earn mechanics. The game inspired by Philippine folklore and mythology.
Players are tasked with assembling a team of Anitos, customizing their equipment, going on adventures, and battling other players while earning reward like in-game currency, weapons and armor, and crafting materials. The game utilizes $GINTO and $LARO tokens, which can be purchased for in-app purchases. Players can purchase and own non-fungible token (NFT) assets, such as Anitos, equipment, and more. However, the developers noted that using these tokens is not required to fully enjoy the game.
What to watch out for?

February update: Recently, it held its annual Lunar New Year update. The update offers new lobby and new equipment for the game characters. The team also brought back the swipe/scroll gesture in the Lobby, which is especially useful for players who play on a smartphone, and added Anito nameplate backgrounds.
The devs also confirmed that they are now preparing for the upcoming Google Play Store and Apple App Store launch.
Axie Infinity

Axie Infinity is a blockchain game allowing players to collect, own, and breed digital pets known as axies. These creatures engage in strategic card battles against monsters or other players. It has two versions: the classic, which was the game’s version when it became popular in the country, and the origin, which is the most recent released version and features various experiences like Epic Power Ups, Infinite Adventure, and The Arena.
Axie Infinity: Origins, introduced in 2022, a card-based strategy game with over 1.5 million global installs, lets players battle creatures, known as Axies, in Adventure mode or challenge others in the Arena. The game introduces a real-time combat system, offers free starter Axies, and incorporates vertical progression through Rune & Charm crafting. The introduction of Axie Experience Points (AXP) Utility in July enables players to earn points in the Origins arena and ascend their Axies to higher levels. To join, players can download the game client for their preferred platform.
As the team introduces the origins, the rewards system on classic, such as receiving SLPs, was removed. But during the YGG Web3 Games Summit, the revival of Axie Infinity Classic was announced.
To further celebrate the “Classic Comeback,” Sky Mavis introduced several updates on the once-popular version of the game in January, including the Cursed Coliseum and a number of tournaments. The game’s strategic depth was also enhanced with in-game curses and the integration of Axie Experience Points (AXP), which allows players to level up and compete for a prize pool.
What to watch out for?
For February, the blockchain game introduced two new features for the Classic version. The first one is Collectible Coliseum, a game mode exclusive for collectible axies with 1,000 $AXS prize pool, while the second one is a daily Golden Spin Wheel feature, where players can spin the wheel once per day and have a chance to earn different prizes.
AXP adjustments are also made for Classic across all game modes. An Arena win grants 200 AXP, while a Grand Tournament win grants 400 AXP. While the Cursed Coliseum can be the most rewarding if players finish the game mode.
Lastly, Classic players can join the Grand Tournament 3 with a prize pool of 1,250 $AXS.

Pixels

Pixels is a free-to-play open-world MMORPG web3 game that allows players to farm resources, cook food, trade goods, and own their own plots of Farm Land, which they can build upon. In addition, the game offers community-building features such as the Guild system and Pixels Reputation.
Players can earn $BERRY tokens by participating in gameplay, which will allow them to advance further and faster in the game, as they can buy more items and level up their skills faster. However, it should be noted that the game is now transitioning to rewarding players with $PIXEL. $BERRY holders should exchange their tokens to $PIXEL.
“$BERRY, as a soft currency, poses challenges in managing within a live player base and economy. Most MMOs struggle with balancing an inflationary economy, and Web3 technology exacerbates the issue by enabling farmers to grind harder and sell their earnings more easily,” the game explained.
Currently, the game is on beta release.
What to watch out for?
Earlier this month, crypto exchange giant Binance announced the listing of $PIXEL on its Launchpool, the 46th project to be listed.
This means that Binance users can stake their $BNB and $FDUSD into separate pools to farm PIXEL tokens starting on February 9. Then, on February 19, Binance will then list $PIXEL and offer $PIXEL/$BTC, $PIXEL/$USDT, $PIXEL/$BNB, $PIXEL/$FDUSD and $PIXEL/$TRY trading pairs.
The Sandbox

The Sandbox is a 3D play-to-earn metaverse game on the Ethereum network, allowing players to explore virtual spaces, purchase land as NFTs, and build structures to earn income. It is similar to games like Minecraft and Roblox but on the metaverse.
It is a decentralized, community-driven ecosystem where creators share and monetize voxel assets and experiences using NFTs and the utility token SAND.
In an exclusive interview with Sebastien Borget, the Sandbox co-founder shared to BitPinas that the platform is consistent with its vision of empowering users to become creators. He highlighted their commitment to this vision through the use of improved tools, especially in no-code development, and the addition of features like multiplayer functionality for collaborative or competitive play.
What to watch out for?
Started on February 7, The Sandbox is hosting its Game Jam with a 50,000 $SAND prize pool and other prizes such as LANDs, Catalysts, and the opportunity to be published on Madballs’ official Estate. Participants must create a game with The Sandbox’s free, no-code Game Maker software.
Mavia

What to Watch Out For:
On February 7, 2024, Mavia launched its native token, $MAVIA, which is used for the game’s ecosystem, and governance, and can be gained through special tournaments and events. Garnering one million downloads two days before the launch, $MAVIA is now 400% higher than its launch price.
Mavia is also set to unveil its own local marketplace and content creator program.
Parallel

Parallel is a competitive sci-fi trading card game on the Ethereum blockchain, allowing players to build decks and engage in battles to determine the fate of humanity among five unique factions. Players use NFTs to represent factions, with the opportunity to buy, sell, and trade them on platforms like OpenSea.
The game, offering play-and-earn features, merges traditional trading card game mechanics with contemporary digital gaming innovations, set against a backdrop of interstellar travel and societal evolution.
Currently it is still in development, but the YGG community has received early access to Parallel. The game had a showcase last November during the YGG W3GS.

Fableborne is a free-to-play, multiplayer action role-playing game with strategic base-building elements. It is being developed by Pixion Games and built on the Avalanche blockchain.
The game is set in the Shatterlands, where players embark on a journey to explore the world, fortify their island, and raid other players’ bases for gold and glory. Fableborne is designed to be accessible and mobile-first, with an optimized mobile gaming experience.

ChampionsIO

Champions is a multiplayer combat game currently in pre-alpha playtesting.
The game is set in Massina, where players can experience the journey of a champion through the eyes of a young warrior. It offers a variety of game modes, including 1v1 combat, 3v3 combat, free-for-all, raid boss PvE, and Maestro Towers.
The game was also recently listed in Amazon’s gaming platform, Prime Gaming.
According to the developers, Maestro Towers is a new feature launching in early 2024 that merges the tower defense genre with Mortal Kombat. Players will be able to customize levels with AI, select their Champions or monsters to defend the level, and attack other towers to earn rewards.

Shrapnel

Shrapnel also features an innovative drift boost and ultimate abilities, which grant players special powers such as speed boosts, rockets, freezing bombs, and booms.

AI Arena

Sidus Heroes is an MMORPG that claims to introduce AAA and WEBGL into the NFT ecosystem.
It has a PvP mode where teams of three players must face each other. To be able to strengthen a hero, a player must complete quests, purchase in-game items and attire, and adopt a pet.
Before 2023 ended, crypto-focused publication Cillionaire tagged the game as the “Best Emerging Project 2023.”
After then, on January 31, the game also concluded an exclusive new year event along with a set of new NFT Heroes in version 0.2.14.
