In addition to participating in talks, engaging with the community, and interviewing attendees, the BitPinas team aimed to explore the booths in the Experience Zone during the YGG Pilipinas Roadtrip at Camp John Hay Trade and Cultural Center in Baguio City on April 26.

BitPinas contributor Michael Lance Domagas participated and completed(!) all quests from the booths. Here’s the full experience:

It’s no longer just Axie Infinity

According to Domagas, the activities mainly involved engaging on social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and Telegram to complete tasks. He said going through the booths one by one allowed him to learn more about the games developed using web3 and blockchain technology

“I enjoyed visiting the booths (because) I learned about games built on web3 and blockchain and I learned that there are more games aside from the famous Axie Infinity… It’s a worthwhile experience.”

Domagas also observed that some games available during the event were really playable, allowing attendees to experience them fully. Some booths offered opportunities to try out games like first-person shooters and RPGs, with a few allowing attendees to download and play games on the spot.

However, he also thought a separate showcase in the booths for those games could make for a better experience. (Note: The games themselves, of course, were showcased all throughout the day on the main stage.)

He was also impressed by the enthusiasm of Baguio locals for learning about these games.

Throughout the day, he learned that many of the attendees are not just members of the extended YGG community, but students from universities, and even families not just from the city but from nearby provinces as well.

The Quest Experience

To complete the quest, attendees need to obtain a quest card and have it stamped by each booth after participating in its activities. After completing this task, they can submit their card to enter the raffle. Winners received prizes such as Jambo Phones, physical merchandise from sponsors, cryptocurrency tokens, and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

In total, among the 15 booths present at the event, 11 represent web3 and blockchain games or entities.

Domagas shared that he encountered diverse experiences:

  • He found the event enjoyable as he was able to appreciate certain games and technologies.
  • However, he did mention that a few booths didn’t have game demos, discussions about what the booths highlighted, and other first-hand experiences.

He also shared some suggestions for improvement, such as providing clearer purchasing instructions for the JamboPhone and more information and guides for the games and platforms. Finally, the internet presented a challenge especially as there were quests where he needed to download games, and these games had larger file sizes.

In a statement, Mench Dizon, Country Head of YGG Pilipinas, discussed the connectivity challenges stemming from both the venue and the ISP provider.

She explained that they had initially arranged for enhanced internet capacity, but unfortunately, the supplier provided inadequate service. Regardless, Dizon expressed that they take full responsibility, and YGG Pilipinas is implementing additional measures to prevent such incidents in future events.

“I would note that these connectivity issues are known challenges when conducting outreach in the provinces of the Philippines. However, the demand coming from Filipinos to uncover opportunities in web3 is evident, which is why YGG Pilipinas remains committed to traveling to each of these areas.”
