PH-Developed Anito Legends Now Available on Google Play

After three years of development in the blockchain space, the homegrown web3 game Anito Legends recently announced another milestone as it launched on another mainstream platform. The auto-battler game is currently on Early Access on the Google Play store.

“We’re exiting a long crypto winter where the team faced several challenges. But here we are, three years since we launched our game and we’ve made strides in bringing blockchain games to more people,” Jayvee Fernandez stated; he is the Chief Marketing Officer of Gawang Ginto Inc, the studio behind Anito Legends. 

Currently, the game APK downloads from the website to be played but as per Gawang Ginto Inc. moving forward, players can anticipate updates to be delivered directly through the Play Store. The game’s early access via APK became accessible by September 2022, with the official launch of Anito Legends 1.0 occurring in February 2023.

In January, the game made its debut on the Epic Games Store which the developers noted to lead to a notable surge in player count, effectively doubling its user base. Fernandez affirmed that the transition to Epic Games validated the team’s distribution approach, despite the game’s initial launch on Windows and Mac OS in 2022.

“It’s not easy to re-integrate a game to serve both Web3 and the more traditional or mainstream gamers… We spent months recalibrating in-game elements to satisfy Google’s policies on blockchain gaming and listing on the Play Store,” Fernandez said.

Fernandez further highlighted the unique structure of their game, emphasizing that no other games share its design.

“We have the competitive advantage of being veterans in the casual game industry, so working with Google and yes, Apple, play to our strengths,” he added.

What is Anito Legends?

Anito Legends is a free-to-play game accessible across iOS, Android, PC, and Mac platforms. 

Combining strategy, adventure, and mythology, players assemble a team of mythical creatures known as Anitos, categorized into four classes: Kiwig, Sarangay, Siyokoy, and Tikbalang. 

Players can customize their equipment, embark on adventures, and engage in battles with fellow players. Incorporating play-and-earn mechanics, participants can earn rewards by battling, collecting and customizing Anitos, and exploring the game world. 

Anito Legends introduces in-game tokens, $GINTO and $LARO, facilitating in-app transactions and serving various in-game purposes. 

Additionally, players can delve into non-fungible token (NFT) assets, owning unique Anitos, equipment, and other items, adding depth and ownership to the gameplay. With both single-player and multiplayer modes available, the game offers diverse experiences, from battling through towers for rewards in single-player mode to engaging in strategic auto-battles against other players in multiplayer mode.

Yvette Tan, a recipient of the Don Carlos Palanca Award for Literature and acclaimed horror writer, contributes to the game’s lore as a creative consultant for the Land of Lupa, the world mode in Anito Legends.

Last October, Anito Legends completed a successful migration to Polygon from the Binance Smart Chain. Fernandez stated that the decision was motivated by the increased partnership prospects offered by the platform, especially within the gaming community in the Philippines. Developers also established new pools of $LARO and $GINTO on Polygon from BSC.
